Prostate Cancer
"Together with the brightest minds in research, we aim to achieve significant breakthroughs in the hope of beating prostate cancer. Our disruptive funding approach identifies revolutionary ways to accelerate health outcomes by creating strong, global collaborative teams." Dr. Colleen Nelson, Global Scientific Chair.
Men's Health
"One Mo can help change the face of men’s health through the powerful conversations created globally during Movember. Men have the chance to confidently discuss men’s health with people around them, resulting in men taking action early, helping change and save lives." Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programs
Mental health and suicide prevention
“The number of men taking their own lives around the world is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Movember is working to ensure all men and boys look after their mental health and are comfortable to seek help when they’re struggling.”
Brendan Maher, Global Director, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
Testicular Cancer
“Despite being the 2nd most common cancer in young men, testicular cancer is often a forgotten cancer due to early detection and treatment. Our projects look at underinvested areas such as improving access to healthcare services and treatment options for relapse” Paul Villanti, Executive Director, Programs.

About the project

Movember Ahead of the Game is a youth mental health program harnessing the power of sport to engage young men. The program teaches young men aged 12-18 years, their support networks of parents and sports coaches to understand mental health, build mental fitness and strengthen resilience. Young men learn how to deal with challenges in both sport and life.

Through Movember funded research, the program was developed, piloted and evaluated in partnership with the University of Wollongong in Australia during 2014-2017. This was part of the 'Go to Where Men Are' strategy.

Research on the program has shown improvements in the mental wellbeing of young men as well as significant changes in the knowledge, attitudes and behavioural intentions that underpin prevention and early intervention of mental ill-health.

Following the establishment of the program's evidence-base, Movember developed a strategy to scale the program in sporting communities across Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Since 2018, the program has been scaled via a unique implementation and partnership model.  Partners such as the Australian Football League  in Australia, Gaelic Athletics Association in Ireland, Greater Toronto Hockey League in Canada, New Zealand Rugby, Rugby League Cares and Scottish Action for Mental Health in the United Kingdom, have been important in amplifying the reach and implementation of the program to date. Over 40 local partners have helped deliver the program.

This funding has and continues to be instrumental for delivering real-world impact for young men aged 12-18 years and their support networks.   To date, over 50,000 young people and their support networks have taken part in the program with a current strategy to engage 250,000 participants across Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom by the end of 2027.
